HAWAIIAN WORD OF THE DAY - KAMA HELE: Traveler
HAWAIIAN PROVERB OF THE DAY - “Here is an offering from a traveler: a voice in greeting, a simple voice.”

October 4, 1976: The statistics roll in for this year and Maui reaches a dubious mark: it becomes the first neighbor island to surpass the one million visitor mark. Depending on who you ask, Maui surpassed the 2 million visitor mark either two or three years ago.
Every effort in the past ten years to restrict the number of visitors here, or the number of rental cars, or the number of condominium and hotels, or the number of vacation rentals, has failed.
The current Maui County administration is now going after vacation rental providers, trying to shut them down because they have been operating without proper permits. Time will tell if this has any impact on the number of visitors, or simply reduces competition for the big-time resorts.
