OCTOBER 8, 1934: Maui gets its first mail by air, from Honolulu, delivered by an Inter-Island flight, which leaves at 8 am.
Today, letters delivered outside the zip code of origin still get sent to Honolulu first, then return. For example, if you send a letter from your Wailuku post office to someone living in Wailuku, the mail stays on Maui. If you send a letter from Wailuku to Kahului, it flies to Honolulu first. It’s called efficiency, we think.
