The motives of another person are as difficult to fathom as a woman’s heart. No one can know for certain what motivated Governor Lingle to violate the expression of the people’s will on neighboring islands.
It is easy to accuse her of succumbing to ambition, pecuniary concerns and debts owed to backers, after all she has her heart set on becoming a US senator. And she has always sided with money and power, which is what upward striving, but essentially unqualified people, always do. But there is more to this. There have been quiet conversations and subtle commands which continue to resonate and echo in her ear. And then there is the issue of once committing an error or crime, as her mentor George Bush, simply push harder and find more reasons to justify oneself.
