HAWAIIAN WORD OF THE DAY — Nupepa: Newspaper HAWAIIAN PROVERB OF THE DAY — “To be continued, according to the newspaper.”
December 24th, 1927: The Hawaiian language newspaper “Kuokoa” dies. First published in 1861, it had for nearly three decades the greatest circulation of any newspaper in Hawaii. The Kuokoa was purchased by the Honolulu Advertiser in 1898. The first two decades of the new century saw drastically declining readership with the advent of English, and the paper was deemed financially unsound in 1927.
