Cringe-worthy Redux

I honestly believe that no one with any intelligence can dispute the fact that Barack Obama is a better person than John McCain for the Big Job. McCain is a political whore of old, choking on lobbyists, blowing in the wind, swimming whichever direction the currents of conservative monies take him. McCain wouldn’t know a rigid principle if it hit him on his infected, bulbous head.

This makes Obama’s whoring out all the more painful.

Yes, to some degree it was expected. No one can work within the American political system without being compromised. The ugly political reality of this country is one reason why the country has rotted. But, so soon Obama and on such huge issues?

“Obama said Thursday that his upcoming trip [to Iraq] might lead him to refine his promise to quickly remove U.S. troops from the war.”

“[Obama] not only embraced but promised to expand Bush’s program to give more anti-poverty grants to religious groups”

“Obama also said “mental distress” should not count as a health exception that would permit a late-term abortion, saying “it has to be a serious physical issue.”

Ok, so the troops are staying, religious groups will continue to suck at the public teat, and now this guy is telling women when and for what reason they can have abortions?

Several months ago I wrote what Obama’s nickname was in the United Kingdom. I repeat it here. He’s a black Ronald Reagan.

He’s moving to the center to pick up votes. He’s moving to a geography that millions of Americans have already told him they want to leave. These people have been his most ardent supporters.

What is the matter with him?

I’ll tell you what. He’s reached the point of the campaign where cold calculation is trampling his principles. Those dizzy supporters, he calculates, are not about to run and vote for McCain, that’s for sure. They’re safe votes. So, now let’s abandon ship and move center to attract other votes.

What we have here is a right wing republican sleeze (McCain) running against a moderate republican waffler (Obama).

So much fo this being a “special election year” of change.
