PapayaSeptember is National Papaya Month
The papaya, Carica papaya L., is a member of the small family Caricaceae allied to the Passifloraceae. Commonly and erroneously called a “tree”, the plant is actually a large herb growing at the rate of 6 to 10 ft ( the first year and reaching 20 or even 30 ft in height), with a hollow green or deep-purple stem becoming 12 to 16 inches or more thick at the base and roughened by leaf scars. Both the stem and leaves contain copious white milky latex Papain, which produces allergies in some people. More >
