Many boomers have become doomers. Even more than that, they have become “triumphantly pessimistic.”

It is, of course, not uncommon for people, as they move into old age, to turn more pessimistic; however, the triumphant part of the equation usually comes only during times of great tumult.

It is not unkind to say that many people resent their late passage into other realms, and seem happier when the world itself seems like it’s going to hell. In all facets of life, however, there is a balance of good and evil, of darkness and light, of optimism and pessimism.

TODAY: UN World Water Day. March 22 has been designated World Water Day – an international day of observance and action to draw attention to the plight of those without access to safe drinking water. On this important date, Water Partners celebrates its progress and renews its commitment to achieving its vision – the day when everyone in the world can take a safe drink of water. Read more

March 22, 1972: Another first for the state of Hawaii: Hawaii becomes the first to approve the equal rights amendment, not 45 minutes after Congress passed the amendment. The ratification eventually falls three state short, and is marred by several probably unconstitutional actions on the part of various state legislatures to rescind their previous ratification votes.
