HAWAIIAN WORD OF THE DAY — Kapuhi: Master
TODAY: Maui Community College officials have lined up two provisional classes for this fall as the college prepares to launch its second four-year bachelor’s degree program. More >June 10, 1909: Word reaches Maui that the little dictator who invaded Lanai with a few Marines and turned an independent country into a subservient territory – Sanford Dole – finally died. Changing forever the course of this remote but peaceful country, Dole managed – with help from Christians of course – to ruin a unique culture in a short period of time. As befitting such an evil man, he gathered many honors during his life, the last being a U.S. District Judgeship, and he died peaceably in his sleep at the ripe age of 82. Oh wait….
