During the past 9 months I have had the fortune (or misfortune, depending) to fly more than 47,000 miles on 9 airlines in 7 countries and 20 airports. It’s been instructive:

American airlines (in general, not the company) are the worst airlines I flew. Other countries provide the usual services – meals, pillows, blankets, luggage, etc. – far better, faster, cheaper and even tastier than American companies do. A pillow and blanket now costs $7 on US Airways, can you believe it?

August 4th, 1961: President Barack Obama is born in the state of Hawaii, USA. “Birthers” – the latest cause celebre of the Ignorati Ignobility – claim Obama was born in Kenya and is therefore an illegitimate president. They are supported by the usual suspects of right-wingnut bloggers and bloviators, and sadly, numerous cowardly Republican legislators who align themselves with these vicious racists. The movement is led by hysterical Dr. Orly Taitz, a California attorney, dentist, real estate agent and emigre from the Soviet Union. Enough said! President Barack Obama was born at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Obama, Sr., a black Kenyan of Nyang’oma Kogelo, Siaya District, Kenya, and Ann Dunham, a white American from Wichita, Kansas. Obama’s parents met while both were attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where his father was enrolled as a foreign student. They separated when Obama was two years old and later divorced.
