TODAY: Senator Inouye’s 85th Birthday -Honolulu-born Daniel Inouye is the senior U.S. Senator from Hawaii and has been a senator for forty-five years, since 1963. He is also an American recipient of the Medal of Honor for his military service during World War II. More >September 7, 1967: The first lower division transfer courses are offered at Maui Community College, making it one of seven community colleges in the University of Hawai’i System and part of ten campus University of Hawai’i System. The College began as Maui Vocational School and was establish in 1931. In 1958, the school became the Maui Technical School, upgrading education from the vocational to the technical level. In 1964, the Hawai’i State Legislature enacted the Community College Act which established a statewide community college system under the University of Hawai’i. MCC became a a full member of the system in 1966.x
