HAWAIIAN WORD OF THE DAY — Mo‘olelo: Legend
NATIONAL NEWS ARCHIVES – Nov. 24, 1971
“D.B.” Cooper parachutes into legend. D. B. Cooper is the name given to a man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in the United States on this day in 1971, received $200,000 in ransom, and parachuted from the plane along the Columbia River of Washington. He was never apprehended. The name he used to board the plane was Dan Cooper, but through a later press error, he became known as “D. B. Cooper.” In spite of hundreds of leads over the years since, no conclusive evidence has surfaced regarding Cooper’s true identity or whereabouts, and the bulk of the money has never been recovered.
